Winter's Day
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
chorus:
Winter's Day let me fly away
Give me wings to soar and sway
Fly me high beyond these grey skies
Far away from a Winter's Day
verses:
It's laid me low
Left me no place to go
Drove me out where cold winds blow
And now I'm lost
Right here in town
Counting the costs
That've brought me down
(chorus)
Since you're here
I thought I'd stay near
But lately it's become too clear
If I'm around
I might bring you down
To feel this wayOn a Winter's Day
(chorus)

I'm Not What I Seem
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
Well I'm Not What I Seem
Though I may look like your dream
Of the sweet young thing
Who'll wear your ring
And obey your wishes in every little thing
Well I'm not what I seem
No I'm not what I seem
It must be some kind of thrill for you
To try and make a woman do
Exactly what you tell her to
Hasn't it occurred to you
That I'm not what I seem
No peaches and no cream
Oh yes I've got a brain or two
I just might have more brains than you
Well I'm not what I seem
No I'm not what I seem
I think that you should try and find
Some gal with only half a mind
Or maybe one that's deaf and blind
Or just don't care when you're unkind
|
But I'm not what I seem
Though I may look like your dream
Of the sweet young thing
Who'll wear your ring
And obey your wishes in every little thing
Well I'm not what I seem
No I'm not what I seem
Oh you were mighty nice at first
Your song and dance were well rehearsed
But now we're in the second verse
And you've begun to do your worst
Oh you're not what you seemed
No I guess I must have dreamed
The guy who used to make me feel
Like everything in life was real
Well you're not what you seemed
No you're not what you seemed

Tired and Hungry (Scared and Lonely)
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
verses:
I drove all night down Highway 101
Driving this waymakes me feel like I'm on the run
And up ahead a big old truck with flaps behind his wheels
saying "Tired and Hungry", "Scared and Lonely"
And that's just how I feel
(chorus)
Traveling is hard to live with when you're by yourself
My brain's on automatic and my heart is on the shelf
I'm looking for a better life somewhere down the road
but when you start with nothing then nothing's all you're owed
(chorus)
The highway brings back memories that I can't erase
And every time I stop I find I'm looking for your face
But even though I love you so my life must be my own
And when you can't be with me I still must go alone
(chorus)
|
chorus:
I'm tired, so tired and hungry, so hungry
Scared, so scared and lonely, so lonely
I need you darling, if only, if only
You'd find me again somehow
And I know, my love, that only, yes only
You can help me now
If you'd find me again somehow

Simply Silly
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
If you are only thinking of me
I'll be the honeysuckle in your rose
The butterfly that lights upon your nose
Will be me
You see you've
Strung me along and sung me your song
Till everybody's saying you are mine
Still I find myself unable to divine
What you feel
for me dear
If I could read your heart like a book
I'd study like I went back to school
If you're just playing, taking a look
Then right-side-up or up-side down
I'll look like a fool
If you are only thinking of me
I'll be the coochi-coochi in your coo
You know I'm simple silly over you
Yes you do

Paper
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
Paper in the kitchen
and paper on the walls
Paper in the bathroom
and even in the halls
Paper in the mailbox
and underneath the news
Paper on the doorknob
with someone else's views
and I'll bet we throw away
a million sheets of paper a day
As soon as she got a computer
She thought her life would be paper-free
But whenever the programs don't suit her
She's got to print them out
to see what she can see
and instead of using less
I think she's using more
It's spewing out the printer
and spilling on the floor
and there's paper for your schoolwork
and letters to your friends
Paper on your birthday
I guess it never ends
and I'll bet we throw away
a million pounds of paper a day
|
And whenever you take yourself shopping
There's paper in every store
and the paper mills run without stopping
No matter how much we use
we still can use more
And whatever is printed on paper
Can Influence the reader I guess
So now that we've got the copy machine
We're redefining the power of the press
And there's paper starting fires
and littering the streets
Advertising flyers and propaganda sheets
and there's paper in the sewers
and the garbage and the waves
and there's a little we recycle
and a little that we save
and I'll bet we throw away
a million tons of paper a day

Just to Tease You
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
verses:
Stalled out in the middle of a busy street
Stuck here on the griddle and they're turning up the heat
This old truck is temperamental
Got to treat her strong and gentle
Stalled out in the middle of a busy street
(chorus)
Patience ain't a virtue in America
Slowing down can hurt you in America
You'll quickly find that it won't pay
If you're sitting in the way
Patience ain't a virtue in America
(chorus)
The business world don't seem too mix with poverty
and fortune's often playing tricks with this dichotomy
but understand this is the land of opportunity
The business world don't seem to mix with poverty
(chorus)
|
chorus:
And if you honk your horn at me
Do you think my engine will agree
To start this bus and move itJust to please you?
Do you think I like the place I am
In the middle of this traffic jam
Perhaps I stalled my engineJust to Tease You

Near You
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
I came to see
if you'd still be here
and I came to see
if my vision would clear
Near You - Near You
Just a voice whispering in a dream
saying you and I were through
and like a child, and feeling lost
I come running back to you
I needed to know if you'd still be here
and I needed to see if my vision would clear
Near You - Near You
Just a boy across the hall
who smiles seductively
He stands too close when he speaks my name
and I feel his mind touching me
and I need to know if you'll still be here
and I need to see if my vision will clear
Near You - Near You

Somebody Else's Shoes
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
My old Grampa said over and over
Each time as if it was news
You never know how someone else feels
Till you've stood for a while in their shoes
Now lately, I have come to see
How my old Granddaddy was right
Cos I've been standing in somebody else's
shoes nearly every single night
Now, my feet start to itching when I walk in the door
Of that old Salvation Army store
They've got everybody else's shoes galore
and they only cost a dollar or two
So I've been standing, I've been walking
I've been all over town
In someone else's shoes
I've been getting around
If my feet had faces they both would frown
In Somebody Else's Shoes
|
Now I'm so sore below my knees
My feet just want to be set free
And every step's another squeeze
of metatarsal agony
But comfort costs so much these days
With the rent come due
and the bills to pay
and the pavement wears those shoes away
and leaves your toes outside to freeze
So my Grampa said it, now this is the deal
If you stand in their shoes
then you'll know how they feel
If they felt like this, it's easy to say
Why they gave the damn things away!

Heart to Heart
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
verses:
Got a problem haunting me
No way to solve it I can see
Nothing left for me to do
But go my way, leaving you
(chorus)
We were happy for a while
Used to always see you smile
Knew you liked your whiskey too
But didn't know what it could do
(chorus)
Bottle sits there on the shelf
Smiling, happy with itself
Can't compete with that, no
It won your heart so long ago
(chorus)
|
chorus:
And if you love your bottle more than me
Then I' guess I'm gonna have to set you free
But can it hold you tight
When the day turns into night
Will it give you tender kisses when you part
Will it take you by the hand
Will it try to understand
Will it give you sweet sweet lovingheart to heart

What's the Matter With You?
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
So, What's the Matter With You?
You know you're hardly smilin'
What's the matter with you?
You've been away a while and
Baby what did I doto get this feeling from you?
I'd like to sail away on
a windy summer day with you
So what's the matter with you?
You know you seem to frown at
everything that I do
It really brings me down that
you used to laugh at my jokes
but now a joke can provoke
a disagreement or two
Or did you find someone new?
I'd like to sail away on
a windy summer day with you
|
I'd like to sail away on
a windy summer day
and feel those summer breezes in my hair
I'd like to hear your heart out
If you would leave the part out
where you say
you don't care - so
What's the matter with you
You know you're hardly smilin'
What's the matter with you
You've been away awhile and
Baby what did I do
To get this treatment from you?
I'd like to sail away on
a windy summer day with you

You Are Changing My Life
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
You Are Changing My Life
every single day
You are changing my life
in a very special way
What you do to me
it's so heavenly
I could almost fly
Fly me high and far away
far from all those yesterdays
before I met you
It's you
Yes you - have changed my life
in many, many ways

Raindrop
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
There's a Raindrop falling gently from a darkened sky
Silent brooding clouds are moving gently toward my life
If you go away
All that I can say
Is I hope you know I'll miss you so
I wish that you could stay
If you find your heart reminds you of me once you're gone
Call for me, I could be free but please don't wait too long
When you go away
All that I will say
Is I hope you know I'll miss you so
I wish that you could stay
There's a raindrop falling gently from a darkened sky
Silent brooding clouds are moving gently through my life
Though the sun may change the raindrops into colored light
Only you could make that rainbow shine for me tonight

Love Can't You Stay?
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
We must tread softly past all of our fears
Hide from their listening ears
and the glistening of their tears
Leave them alone, don't bother them
Leave them alone, don't let them in here
Off in the twilight with night drawing near
Look there a flickering host
of bickering ghosts appear
Leave them alone, don't bother them
Leave them alone, don't let them in here
Look, there is Guilt dressed in old rags of gray
Look, there is Pain and he's looking this way
Love Can't You Stay
|
Leave them alone, don't bother them
Leave them alone, don't let them in
Leave them alone, don't bring them this way
Fragile the balance between night and day
Agile the chanceThat makes work out of play
Love Can't You Stay?
We must tread softly past all of our fears
Hide from their listening ears
And the glistening of their tears
Leave them alone, don't bother them
Leave them alone, don't let them in
Leave them alone, don't bother them
Leave them alone, don't let them in here
Don't let them in here

Nightingale
© 1989 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
I am the Nightingale
I sing my song revealing how it feels to be real
Deep within your fairytale
I fly beneath the sky
And must be free
Captivity will stifle my song
Let my melody run dry
Mixed dreams of reality
Great fortunes and poverty
One must be above or beneath to be free
Listen my friends
The middle enslavedbetween the ends
And I am the nightingale
I sing my song revealing how it feels to be real
Deep within your fairytale

Please Turn it Off!
© 1988 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
It costs a lot to sell a point of view
But if you've got the cash
you could convince us that it's true
And I'm wondering which came first
Reality or the newspapers
Does the media tell us what to think
And how to live and die
And what the human mind does best is make mistakes
So what many folks believe in
ought to be a fake
Bought and paid for
Yes, it's so hard to tell
in a world that's advertised so well
Just remember, when you believe a lie
You make it true for you
And mindless repetition is the way we're taught to learn
And it's coming at us every day
Every way we turn
Turn it off
Please turn it off
Please, just turn it off
