The Moth

Chorus:
First a Child crying in the night
Then a fledgling shying from the flight
At last a moth flying to the light
Vying for the right to the art of dying
He tried to work at many different trades but everyone went wrong
And every lonely dollar that he made went for a bottle or a song
He stood atop the mountain but he fell and then let go
and he sang as he plunged to the valley far below
chorus
She had magic waiting in her mind and vision waiting in her eyes
She never tried to see and so was blind
She only knew herself disguised
She sank beneath the waters Perhaps her spirit tries
To use the mighty ocean to wash away the lies
chorus
Fear is in the middle and fear is at the start
Fear is on the edges and fear is at the heart
Shy as a tiny swallow beneath the eagle's span
But fear need not follow when it leads you by the hand

Alone With The Blues
© 2006 Marcia Guderian,all rights reserved

I found a new way down to the place where sorrow roams
I found a new way down to where the Devil makes his home
And I'm here Alone With The Blues
I'm here Alone With The Blues
Just under the surface, Just beyond all view
I'm here alone, Alone With The Blues
Well the Blues they can swim up a river of tears
They can make you shy when there's nothing to fear
When you're there Alone With The Blues
When you're there Alone With The Blues
Just under the surface, Just beyond all view
You're there alone, Alone With The Blues
World behind a veil, shadows from another realm
Through this time we sail with the Devil at the helm
Everyone Alone With The Blues,
Everyone Alone With The Blues
Just under the surface, Just beyond all view
One by one, Alone With The Blues
Well it's a short way down to the place where sorrow roams
It's a short way down to where the Devil makes his home
And you go Alone With The Blues
You go there Alone With The Blues
Just under the surface, Just beyond all view
You go alone, Alone With The Blues
Alone With The Blues (3x)

Here's To The Blues
© 2001 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved

So many faces still hanging 'round
And I'm glad to see that you're still in town
It's been ages since we shared a brew
So Honey, Here's to the Blues
Many evenings, Many mornings
Many changes, without warnings
It'll take time to hear all the news
So Honey Here's to the Blues
Time is weaving faded tapestries
Only leaving jaded fantasies,
buried hopes, forgotten memories
just waiting for their cues
So many faces still here in town
So many people still hanging round
Still in places we're missing a few
So Honey Here's to the Blues

To Make It Up To You
© 2015 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved

Got another call from the blues today
reminding me that you've gone away,
Honey feel so low without you
Been thinkin' and a-worryin' all the way to town
Do you know I never meant to bring you down
Now there must be something I can do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
There must be something I can do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
I'm only needing half a chance, to make it up to you.
Never knew what happened when we had that row
I only know that I'm hurting now
Honey Life's so cold without you
Don't remember any of the words we let fly
All I remember is the look in your eye
Now if only I knew what to do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
If only I knew what to do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
I'm only needing half a chance, to make it up to you.
Now everywhere I go I'm looking for your face
How did you disappear leaving me no trace?
Our old home town's such an empty place without you.
I know that I'll be hearing from the blues again
Every morning, every day they be checking in
But they never tell me what to do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
The blues won't tell me what to do
To make it up to you, To make it up to you
I'm only needing half a chance, to make it up to you.
Honey please let me make it up to you.

I Don't Wanna Cry
© 2010 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
I Don't Wanna Cry, it makes my nose run
And my eyes get red and sore
And I can't look in the mirror
And I won't answer the door
Then I'm on a spiral staircase
and the Blues wait down below
It always happens so I Don't Wanna Cry
I Don't Wanna Cry all for a heartbreak and a story that has died
I Don't Wanna Cry but still I can't shake that feeling from inside
I Don't Wanna Cry over the past with the future standing by
I Don't Wanna Cry, I Don't Wanna Cry, I Don't Wanna Cry
Instrumental verse
I Don't Wanna Cry all for a lost race and a lifetime full of lies
I Don't Wanna Cry but still I can't chase these teardrops from my eyes
I Don't Wanna Cry over the past with the future standing by
I Don't Wanna Cry, I Don't Wanna Cry, I Don't Wanna Cry

Nothing Nowhere Song
© 2008 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
|
Nothing to lose, Nothing at all
Nowhere to hide, Nowhere to fall
Nothing to see, Nothing to do
That't how I feel since losing you
Ain't getting nowhere, Ain't getting none
At least I know where these blues came from
But if you go there, you'll find them gone
They moved in here when you moved on
Instrumental verse
One thing for certain, that you don't care
Cos you dropped the curtain on our affair
Nothing above me, nothing below
No One to love me, No one to know

Little City Blues
© 2005 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
Little City Blues,
Nothing but a small town That's grown out of its shoes
Doesn't feel like my town So many things are new
Enough to make this Little City Blue
Once a friendly face Was everywhere you looked
"Once upon a place", like in a story book
It wasn't long ago if memories are true
We didn't call this Little City Blue
Now there's Traffic everywhere
And no one seems to care how anybody feels anymore
And the places that we played have recently been made
Into shopping malls and parking lots, highways and convenience stores
But growth is s'posed to bring an economic spring
More money in our pockets, More chance to try our wings
But every extra dime you make is ten cents more the taxes take
Big Money dreams that don't come true Help keep this little city blue
The water's tasting bad, The air is looking gray
The streets are getting crowded With more folks everyday
The rents are going up and crime is in the news
and this town has those Little City Blues
And now the wheel of progress Is turning round and round
Picking up more speed now, no way to slow it down
There's still a lot to lose, but it's going awf'ly fast
These Little City Blues are all that seems to last
And one day coming soon, We'll take a look around
And find our Little City has become a major town
But bigger city lights and bigger city views
Won't chase away these Little City Blues
No bigger city lights and bigger city views
Won't chase away these Little City Blues

These Six Strings
© 2012 M. Guderian, all rights reserved
|
I always thought that I could save you, guess you always thought so too.
But when the need arose for it, there was little I could do.
And I blame myself everyday, having been so uselessly blind,
for not being able to see ahead, too thoughtless to look behind.
Chorus:
You were bound by laws and papers, doctors orders, too many pills,
with only my voice and these six strings defining what was real.
If only my voice and these six strings could have been enough to heal.
You are always in my thoughts. Here within my tortured soul,
Racked by grief and failure, I play my lonely role.
And I'm still that little girl hugging you goodbye before I went to school,
But time has taken that innocence and made it play the fool.
chorus
Now only my voice and these six strings can be enough to heal.

Mama's Little Boy
© 2012 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved

Poor little boy child, your mama treat you bad (2x)
A more selfish mama no child ever had
Couldn't have no friends, she never let you play (2x)
Just where you were happy, she never let you stay
She taught you how to lie, to hate and be afraid (2x)
What she meant by "love" was just a word to say
She used you for her fool each and every day (2x)
She owned you like a thing and then she threw you away
Poor lonely man, you hate your mama now (2x)
But if she was to call you, you'd run back to her anyhow
Poor lost soul, I hope you find some joy (2x)
And finally understand your Mama's Little Boy

The Road Of Compromise
© 2007 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
My Father said, "the ways of sin follow the lines separating men"
We must build the Road of Compromise
Over rivers of hate and mountains of lies
For those we've fought and those we've killed
For every drop of blood we've spilled
For all laid waste so needlessly,
This road we'll make in memory
Make it wide and make it strong,
Make it smooth and not too long
With destinations all may choose
For 'give and take' not 'win or lose'
Pave it with hope and harmony,
With wisdom and humility
With reasoned thought and clarity,
And with respect and honesty
My Father said, "the ways of sin follow the lines separating men"
We must build the Road of Compromise
Over rivers of hate and mountains of lies
The road to peace is compromise

If I Knew
© 2012 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
If I knew what went on with you, it could set my mind at ease
It's my heart tearing me apart, so now darlin' don't you tease
If there's a chance for our romance won't you tell me baby please, please
Say that you do love me too or Honey, set me free
Made a date and so I wait, but still you never show
When you call you explain it all, so now how am I to know?
I string along though I know it's wrong and my apprehensions grow, so
Show me that you care for me or Baby, let me go
If I knew what went on with you, then I'd know if I should stay
Just to see if you might miss me, maybe I should go away
Finding out what you're all about is leading me astray, Babe
Don't it seem, awf'ly mean to torture me this way, say
Honey if you care for me, then don't treat me this way.

When The Heavens Cry
© 2010 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
I live here in the wet northwest where the summer is so short and cool,
And the winter gets so gray you could cry all day. Lord but I'm a crying fool.
Chorus:
Cos when the heavens start to cry then so do I, oh Lord,
When the heavens start to cry then so do I.
Help me find a way to make the sun shine everyday,
Cos when those heavens cry than so do I.
When that rain falls down making puddles on the ground,
That's when I need to say "goodbye".
When that sky goes gray then I need to run away,
Cos when it gets into cryin' so do I.
chorus
Nothing quite so sad as a summer going bad,
Keeps those teardrops waiting on the sly.
Those clouds come rollin' in when the fall is here again,
and when they start to cry then so do I
And the sky is crying with me when it rains, when it rains.
Teardrops rolling down to the sea when it rains, when it rains.
chorus
Yes when those heavens cry, then so do I.

Nobody Would Know
© 2012 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
If I should die tomorrow, Nobody Would Know.
People die in poverty and people die in wealth.
some may die by violence and some may die by stealth.
Some may die at peace while others die at strife.
Many think that dying is just a part of life,
But I could die tomorrow and Nobody Would Know.
Read it in the papers or hear it in the news,
Sometimes when the phone rings the call is from the blues.
Maybe it's a friend or someone you don't know,
Faces that are missing as one by one they go,
And I could die tomorrow and Nobody Would Know.
Living ends in dying and dying ends in dust.
You never have to live but dying is a must.
And no one knows from dying what happens to your soul,
What happens to your senses with no body to control,
And I could die tomorrow and Nobody Would Know
If I die tomorrow, then nobody would know.
There'd be no memorial, nobody would go.
Nobody would notice, nobody would stare.
Nobody around would make it their affair,
yes, I could die tomorrow and Nobody Would Know.
Nobody Would Know.

Dreaming This Way
© 1989/2010 Marcia Guderian, all rights reserved
|
As I gaze out at my front yard cold and gray, a different parking lot each day.
Still I stay Off the welfare rolls this way. It's the price I have to pay,
for not learning how the money game is played
Was a time if you'd told me that I could live like this,
I wouldn't have believed it, no I couldn't have conceived of it.
And though leading so boldly this life within my means,
I'm not saying that I've given up my dreams.
There are those all around me with so much less than I,
And they sometimes knock upon my door at night.
And though their misery astounds me, I turn them all away,
Though my concience seems to say that I'm guarding only loneliness and fright.
I was raised to believe in Brotherhood and Love,
through teachings never reaching to those I'm speaking of.
I'm afraid to believe in the ethic thus implied,
Lest I wind up like them locked into a life on the outside.
As I drive through the city, and people stop and stare,
I smile at them acknowledge they are there.
And sometimes I wonder, if they ever smiled back,
Would the masks they wear for faces start to crack?
Was a time if you'd told me that I could live like this,
I wouldn't have believed it, no I couldn't have conceived of it.
And though leading so boldly, this life within my means,
I'm not saying that I've given up my dreams, my dreams, my dream...
Dreaming, maybe I'm dreaming, I could be dreaming, of here and today.
Wake up tomorrow and it could be years ago, and I could be dreaming,
Dreaming This Way.
